Late-winter storm slams Sullivan

SULLIVAN - An intense winter storm rolled through east-central Missouri Saturday afternoon, dumping a half-foot of snow and paralyzing vehicle traffic along Interstate 44. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported two fatalities in a crash along I-44 near Lebanon in Laclede County. Numerous accidents and slide-offs were reported across the area.

Winter Storm Warning Issued

SULLIVAN - A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for Franklin and Crawford counties in eastern Missouri. The warning is in effect from Friday afternoon until noon on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015. Expect up to four inches of snow/ice/sleet.

Sullivan woman remains jailed after wild chase

SULLIVAN - At approximately 9 p.m. on Feb. 9, 2015 the Sullivan Police Department received a report that a 2004 Jeep Cherokee had just been stolen from the Fas-Trip gas station in Sullivan.   The vehicle was located around 9:27 p.m. near Fair Street by a patrolling Sullivan officer.

Sullivan wards 2 & 3 will have new council members

SULLIVAN - A significant shift in members of the Sullivan City Council will occur following the April 7, 2015 municipal election. The recent resignation of Mayor Tom Leasor - and the subsequent appointment of Ward 3 Alderman/Council President Dennis Watz - will have Watz continue on as mayor because he's running for the position unopposed.

Mayor Tom Leasor resigns due to job

SULLIVAN - City of Sullivan Mayor Tom Leasor resigned his elected position during the regularly scheduled Tuesday night City Council meeting. Leasor, thankful for the opportunity to serve the citizens of Sullivan, says professional opportunities will necessitate time away from the community. He explained the situation in a resignation letter, which is posted below. The Sullivan Journal would like to thank Mr. Leasor for bringing transparency and professionalism to city government. Prosecutor: Sullivan teen beaten, threatened, left nude in cold

SULLIVAN - An allegation of a stolen cell phone may have led to a horrific crime reported to the media Monday by the Franklin County Sheriff's Office. The Sullivan Journal has learned that Crystal D. Gehm, 37, of 450 East Springfield Road #29-D, in Sullivan, has been charged with three felonies in the case that began in the early morning hours of Jan. 12, 2015.

VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher Awards

SULLIVAN - VFW Post 3987 and its auxiliaries have recognized three Sullivan School District educators with the Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher Award.  First place post winners are Linda Beckett, middle school physical education teacher, Charlotte Parnell high school science education teacher and Denise Gehlauf elementary teacher.
