SULLIVAN - A 16-year-old Sullivan High School sophomore was killed this afternoon after she lost control of her vehicle and struck a tree on Hwy. 185 North, reports the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
According to reports, Elisha A. Funston was driving a 2009 Cobalt northbound on Hwy. 185 at about 2:05 p.m. when she apparently lost control of the vehicle just south of Schmidt Lane, traveled off the left side of the highway and struck a tree. She was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, reports the State Patrol.
Funston, a volleyball player at SHS, had just left a friend's house a few miles away and was heading home when the accident occurred. She just recently received her driver's license. The car was totaled in the accident and Funston was alone in the vehicle at the time of the accident.
The accident happened just one month after Tianna Stockley, an SHS senior, was fatally injured in a single-vehicle accident on Feb. 19, 2012.
