SULLIVAN – After years of serving locals and not-so-locals in the backside bays of store No. 65, Wal-Mart has turned over the keys to its tire and lube express services to oil-change behemoth Jiffy Lube.

“We switched over October 12,” said Isaac Gregg, general manager of the Jiffy Lube at the local Wal-Mart store. Deciding to go with a soft opening, many Wal-Mart customers recently discovered the change via Jiffy Lube employees handing out coupons at the front entrance or the new signage across the building and parking lot.

Those coupon-toting employees may have been recognizable to customers – or maybe not. Wal-Mart tire and lube express employees were provided an option to join Jiffy Lube or stay on with Wal-Mart. No employees were terminated as a result of the new business agreement.

“They had the chance to either work for Jiffy Lube or continue with Wal-Mart,” Gregg said during a recent interview. “There was absolutely no loss of jobs.” In fact, some of the familiar faces remain behind the counter – and some new ones, too.

The reason for the business marriage is customer service, Gregg says. It’s simply about providing the Wal-Mart customer with the best automotive service experience in the most expedient manner as possible.  “We obviously have a lot of experience in the automotive service field and it’s what we do best,” said Gregg. He notes that Jiffy Lube is well known in the industry for getting customers in and out fast, along with great service. “We’ve been doing this a long time.”

In fact, the Houston-based company website boasts 2,000 service centers and more than 22 million customers per year. Jiffy Lube is consistently rated as one of the top franchise and entrepreneur opportunities in the nation. The location inside Wal-Mart will offer the same services as before, but pricing and other details are under the control of Jiffy Lube (see jiffylube.com/walmart or ask at the counter).

“We are really glad to be here and look forward to serving former and new customers at our Wal-Mart location,” Gregg says. “We are here to stay.” In fact, many St. Louis-area Wal-Mart tire and lube locations have been making the switch, including Washington and Eureka.

“Everything is working out great,” Gregg says. “The customers have been very happy and things are going exceptionally well.”
